Ring Care

Each June ring is handmade with solid gold & ethically sourced stones. Our rings are made to be worn and designed to last. As with all fine jewelry, being mindful of your ring and general maintenance will ensure your piece stays as good as new.

14k Gold

June rings are solid gold, never plated, so your piece will never lose its beautiful hue. 14k gold is a precious metal very suited for everyday wear, more durable and resistant to scratching than 18k gold.

A white gold ring can be re-rhodium plated to refresh it’s white shine, and yellow & rose gold just need a simple polishing to look as good as new.

14k gold can be bent or dented - especially very dainty bands - when exposed to strong impact. Be mindful of taking your ring off for activities where this might occur.

Small scratches to your ring from general wear and tear are normal, and can be removed with polishing.

To clean your 14k gold ring use a soft-bristled toothbrush and warm soapy water. Avoid exposing your ring to chemicals & rough activities (sports, exercise, cleaning, etc) and have your engagement ring inspected every year to make sure it’s in great shape!

Created & Mined Diamonds

Created and mined diamonds are chemically and optically identical. They are the exact same material which means they offer the same durability & longevity. Diamonds are one of the hardest materials on earth, but they’re not indestructible. Severe impact can cause chips or cracks to your stone - shapes with pointed edges are the most vulnerable (princess, marquise, baguette & pear cuts).

Avoid touching your diamond with your fingers as your skin’s natural oils can cloud your diamond’s sparkle. Lotion, make-up, and bath products can do the same. Clean your diamond with a soft bristled toothbrush & warm soapy water to get it sparkling again!

Moissanite

Moissanite is its own gemstone, with its own unique chemical composition. It’s known for how similar it looks to a diamond as well as its durability. A diamond is the hardest gemstone available, but moissanite being the 2nd hardest is extremely suitable for everyday wear (diamond is a 10 on the Mohs scale and moissanite is a 9.25).

As with a diamond, a moissanite can scratch or break if exposed to severe impact but it is quite rare. A moissanite will not cloud or lose its sparkle with wear, and as long as it’s properly cared for it will last forever.

Other Gemstones

Gemstones come in every color of the rainbow, and here at June we love getting to incorporate them into your designs. If you choose a gemstone for your ring, it’s important to be mindful that extra care is likely required to ensure your stone will last.

Gemstones vary in hardness and while some are very suitable for everyday wear, others will be very likely to scratch, cloud, or even chip over time. Softer gemstones can certainly still be incorporated into a ring, but they will show signs of wear over time. If the ring is worn every day and subject to normal wear & tear, you may need  to replace a softer stone a time or two over the course of many years.

Ring settings that offer more protection (bezel, halo, and flush settings) can improve the longevity of a gemstone.

A June Design Consultant can provide you with information regarding the durability of your stone selection.

Clean your gemstone setting by soaking in a mild soapy water and dry it with a soft cloth. Be careful not to expose your stone to harsh chemicals, abrasive materials like exfoliants, or severe impact (sports, exercise, etc).
